Why eBooks?

No matter how you spell it, e-books or eBooks, they are here to stay! eBooks are a wonderful way to discover the information you’re looking for at a fraction of the price of what a paper book will cost you.

If you’ve never heard of eBooks, then you are in for a treat. Here are some facts about eBooks and why I love them and why I own a hard drive full of them!

An eBook is a book that is published in electronic or digital format (PDF) as opposed to a book printed on paper. eBooks had their beginning in the late 1990’s and they have been gaining in popularity ever since.

I have been reading eBooks for about 2 years now and find myself reading eBooks much more regularly than paper books; here are some reasons why:

• Since eBooks are instantly available upon payment, I don’t have to pay any shipping charges! I like that. Shipping has become increasingly expensive over the last few years and saving money makes me feel good.

• When I need to know about something, I want it quickly and, in our ‘instant microwave’ society, I’m sure I’m not the only person that thinks like this. I’m like Varuka in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate factory – I want it NOW! Well, I can have it now with eBooks. The minute I pay I can download, unzip and, just that fast, be reading my new eBook. Amazing!

• We’re a homeschooling family living on one income. I’m frugal and yet information is appealing to our whole family. Together we have many different interests. The kids can find eBooks that feed their interests within a homeschooling environment and it doesn’t break the bank. This is great!

• The bookshelves in our home are overflowing! This fact makes eBooks VERY appealing. I can just store my eBooks on my hard drive! I can also copy my eBooks onto a CD if I choose and save space on my hard drive (for more eBooks =) ).

• My eBooks can be just as portable as a regular paper book. I can take my laptop with me to the beach or wherever and can read, read, read to my heart’s content. This way I don’t have to take an extra suitcase just for books.

• A lot of older books are small and the font is tiny and hard to read. eBooks in the Adobe PDF format make the job of reading so much easier with the zoom option. You can make the font stand out for easier reading and for us older folks that is a HUGE benefit.

• eBooks are eco friendly! No paper or ink (unless you want to print out your eBook).

I’m sure you can think of many more reasons why eBooks can be a wonderful benefit to your family. Now that you’re aware of them I hope you will try them. Just a couple and you will be hooked – I promise.
